RightFret is a guitar practice app for iPhone. You may use it for your own personal practice. Premium subscriptions are sold and managed entirely by Apple — we never see your payment details, and cancellations and refunds go through Apple. The app is a practice tool, not a guarantee of results, and we provide it as-is. Don’t copy it, resell it, or try to break it.
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and John Mulligan (“RightFret,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) governing your use of the RightFret iOS application and this website (together, the “Service”).
By downloading, installing, or using RightFret, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Your use of RightFret is also subject to Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions. Where Apple’s terms conflict with ours in relation to your App Store purchase, Apple’s terms govern that purchase.
RightFret is a fretboard-learning and practice tool. It listens to your guitar through your device’s microphone or audio interface, drills note recognition, and tracks your progress over time.
RightFret is an educational aid. It does not guarantee any particular standard of musical ability, rate of improvement, or outcome. Your results depend on your own practice.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use RightFret on Apple devices you own or control, in line with the App Store Terms of Service.
You may not: copy, modify, or create derivative works of the app; reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble it, except where that restriction is prohibited by law; rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute, or sublicense it; remove or alter any proprietary notices; or use it in any way that breaks applicable law.
RightFret does not use accounts, logins, or registration. Your practice data, mastery scores, and calibration profiles are stored locally on your device. We have no server that holds your data, which means we cannot recover it for you. Deleting the app permanently deletes that data. See our Privacy Policy for detail.
RightFret offers optional premium features through auto-renewing subscriptions purchased inside the app.
All purchases are processed by Apple. We do not handle, receive, or store your payment information at any point.
Prices may change. Where the law requires it, we will give notice of a price change before it takes effect, and you may cancel before it applies.
Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are governed by Apple’s policies and issued at Apple’s discretion. We cannot issue refunds directly. Refund requests go through reportaproblem.apple.com.
This does not affect any statutory rights you have that cannot be waived by agreement.
Some features are available without payment. We may change, add, or remove features over time, including moving a feature between the free and premium tiers. Where such a change materially reduces what an active paid subscription provides, you may cancel through Apple as described above.
We may suspend or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, at any time. If we discontinue it entirely while you hold an active subscription, contact us and we will help you seek an appropriate refund from Apple.
You agree not to use RightFret to break the law, interfere with or disrupt the app or anyone else’s use of it, attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system, or circumvent any security, licensing, or payment mechanism.
RightFret, including its software, design, audio processing methods, curriculum structure, text, graphics, and branding, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property law. These Terms grant you a licence to use the app; they do not transfer any ownership.
“RightFret” and the RightFret logo are our marks. You may not use them without written permission.
RightFret uses Apple StoreKit for in-app purchases and TelemetryDeck for anonymous, aggregated usage analytics. Those providers operate under their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services.
RightFret requires microphone access and may produce audio through your device or connected equipment. You are responsible for your own hearing safety and for the volume levels you choose, particularly when using headphones, amplifiers, or an audio interface. You are responsible for having a working device, a guitar, and any equipment you choose to use.
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, that pitch detection will be accurate in every environment or with every instrument or setup, or that it will meet your requirements. Detection accuracy depends on your guitar, your room, background noise, and your input hardware.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill, arising from or relating to your use of the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim arose, or ten US dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, demand, loss, or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your misuse of the Service or your breach of these Terms.
These Terms apply until terminated. You may terminate at any time by deleting the app from your devices. We may terminate or suspend your licence if you materially breach these Terms. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; sections 9, 12, 13, 14, and 16 survive.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Hartford County, Connecticut, and you and we consent to that jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your country of residence.
RightFret is rated 4+ and collects no personal information from any user. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use RightFret only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, who accepts these Terms on your behalf.
These Terms are between you and us, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for RightFret or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for RightFret. If RightFret fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to RightFret, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, or consumer protection claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Effective” date above. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in force. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
