RightFret processes all audio on your device. We never hear your guitar, never record you, and never send audio data anywhere. Your practice data, mastery scores, and calibration profiles live on your iPhone and never leave it. The only data we collect is anonymous app usage analytics through TelemetryDeck — no personal information, no tracking, no advertising.
RightFret (“RightFret,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is an iOS application developed by John Mulligan. This privacy policy explains how RightFret handles your information.
If you have questions about this policy, you can reach us at support@rightfret.com.
RightFret does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. We do not have user accounts, we do not require registration, and we have no server that receives your data.
Specifically, RightFret does not collect: your name, email address, or contact information; audio recordings of any kind; location data; device identifiers that could identify you personally; or browsing history, contacts, photos, or any data from other apps.
RightFret requests access to your device’s microphone for two purposes: real-time pitch detection during practice quizzes (to hear which note you played on your guitar) and chromatic tuner functionality. Audio is processed entirely on-device using signal processing algorithms running on your iPhone’s processor. Audio data is analyzed in real-time, frame by frame, and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. When you stop a quiz or close the tuner, audio processing stops immediately.
RightFret stores the following data locally on your iPhone using Apple’s SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device:
| Data Type | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Practice session history | Track your accuracy, streaks, and progress over time |
| Mastery scores | Bayesian per-position scores that drive adaptive quiz selection |
| Spacing Gate checkpoints | Calendar-day timestamps proving retention across sessions |
| Learning phase progress | Which curriculum phase you’re in and advancement state |
| Calibration profiles | Noise floor, AGC gain, and per-string signal data for your guitar/room/input |
| App preferences | Settings like session length, note visibility, and selected calibration profile |
| Onboarding baseline | Your self-reported starting level |
You can delete all of your data at any time by deleting the RightFret app from your device. Deleting the app permanently removes all stored data.
RightFret uses TelemetryDeck to collect anonymous, aggregated usage analytics. TelemetryDeck is a privacy-focused analytics service that does not use cookies, does not track users across apps, and does not collect personally identifiable information.
The analytics signals we collect are: session started/completed, paywall shown, subscription started, restore purchases tapped, onboarding completed, and calibration completed. These signals contain no personal data, no audio data, no practice scores, and no information that could identify you. TelemetryDeck’s privacy policy is available at telemetrydeck.com/privacy.
RightFret offers optional premium subscriptions processed entirely through Apple’s App Store and StoreKit 2. We do not process payments directly and never have access to your payment information, Apple ID, or billing details. All subscription management, billing, and refunds are handled by Apple. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your iPhone’s Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
RightFret uses only two third-party services: Apple StoreKit 2 (for in-app purchases — no data shared from RightFret) and TelemetryDeck (anonymous event signals only). RightFret does not use advertising SDKs, social media trackers, or crash reporting services that collect personal data.
RightFret does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). Since RightFret collects no personal information from any user, this applies equally to users of all ages. RightFret is rated 4+ on the App Store.
All data is stored locally on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework with standard iOS data protection. Since no data is transmitted to external servers, there is no risk of server-side data breaches. Your data is protected by your device’s passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID, and by iOS’s built-in app sandboxing.
Since RightFret stores all data on your device and collects no personal information on any server, you exercise your data rights directly: view your data in the Journey tab, delete all data by deleting the app. If you are located in the EEA, UK, or California, the applicable privacy regulations (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA) are inherently satisfied by the app’s privacy-by-design architecture — no personal data is collected or processed on any server.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Effective” date at the top of this page. Continued use of RightFret after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
